Behind Every Feeding Journey: Love, Grit, and a Lot of Snacks

Every breastfeeding story is unique, and every one of them matters. Whether your journey began with a perfect latch or a hospital-grade pump, each feeding session is a mix of love, determination, and yes… lots of lactation snacks.

As we celebrate Breastfeeding Awareness Month, we’re shining a light on the real moments: the raw, beautiful, sometimes overwhelming ones that define the feeding journey for so many new moms.

Lactation is a full-body, full-heart experience.

It’s not just about feeding a new baby. It’s about learning your body all over again, adjusting to new routines, and tuning in to the needs of this tiny human who depends on you completely.

Many new moms are surprised by how intense breastfeeding can be. Leaking through shirts, cluster feeding at midnight, and worrying about milk supply are all part of the experience. And while no one hands you a manual, many moms do reach for community, support… and snacks.

Let’s talk about lactation snacks.

They’re more than just a tasty treat. They can be a lifeline! Nutrient-rich, milk-boosting, easy-to-eat-with-one-hand options help new moms stay fueled during those early weeks. When you're constantly nursing or pumping, your body burns serious calories. Supporting lactation through proper nourishment (and hydration!) is one way to help maintain milk supply and give yourself a well-deserved moment of care.

Whether it's a cookie packed with galactagogues, a smoothie with oats and flaxseed, or a snack bar you keep in the diaper bag, lactation snacks are practical, comforting, and, for many moms, essential.

Every journey deserves to be honored.

Some moms exclusively breastfeed. Others pump, supplement with formula, or switch feeding methods entirely. Every choice made with love is the right choice. And every journey, no matter how long or winding, is worthy of celebration and support.

Your story, with all its ups and downs, could be the encouragement another new mom needs. When we share how we navigated low supply, dealt with latch issues, or balanced breastfeeding with returning to work, we’re creating space for others to feel less alone.

So here’s to the moms who:

  • Nurse through the night and snack between feedings

  • Worry about milk supply, but keep showing up (probably with a cookie in hand!)

  • Learn what works best for their baby and body

  • Choose self-compassion over pressure

  • Believe that feeding with love in any form matters

Whether your journey lasted three weeks or three years, whether it was smooth or full of obstacles, you did something amazing. You showed up for your baby with strength, love, courage, and conviction. And maybe a few Bessie’s treats along the way.

So let’s keep telling our stories. Let’s support each other. And let’s never underestimate the power of shared wisdom, or a well-timed, thoughtfully-constructed snack.
